Meeuwenberg selected to lead King cross country/track & field programs

BRISTOL, Tenn. – King University Director of Athletics David Hicks announced the hire of Nathan Meeuwenberg as head cross country and track & field coach. Meeuwenberg joins the Tornado staff after leading the Science Hill High School cross country programs and serving as an assistant for the track & field programs.

"During the interview process, Nathan clearly established himself as the frontrunner, with his focus on student-athlete development and inspiring excellence in our students," said Hicks. "He's a proven coach with a track record for success and deep knowledge of training philosophies, and because of his local ties, brings stability to our program that will reap rewards for our student-athletes."

Meeuwenberg joined the Science Hill programs in the spring of 2016, coaching one state champion in his first year and improving the Hilltoppers' finish from 15th to 10th at the state championships. The next year, Meeuwenberg coached an individual to a school record mile time as she posted the second fastest time in the country.

"King University has a rich tradition of success within their athletic department," Meeuwenberg said. "I am excited for the opportunity given to me by David Hicks. This position is a dream come true. I cannot wait to develop a program that excels at the national level."

Meeuwenberg has also been a student pastor since 2015 in Johnson City. In that time at Redeemer Community Church, he has organized many trips for students to connect. He also served as a mentor, helping students launch their careers in their respective fields.

He graduated from Milligan College in 2014 with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with an emphasis in Economics. Meeuwenberg was a captain of the cross country and track & field teams where he owns a top 10 8k time of 24:52 and was a four-time qualifier for the NAIA National Championships.

Meeuwenberg resides in Johnson City with his wife Evan and daughter Sylva.
