Ward, Floyd selected TSWA Players of the Week

BRISTOL, Tenn. – Following spectacular weeks, Julie Ward of the King University women's volleyball team and Jordan Floyd of the men's basketball team were each selected Tennessee Sports Writers Association (TSWA) Player of the Week.

Ward may have turned in her best week of the year, leading the Tornado to a 3-0 record as they moved into a tie atop the Conference Carolinas West Division standings. She started with a career-high 24 kills while hitting a blistering .579 in a 3-1 win at North Greenville University on Wednesday. The Berthoud, Colo., native followed that with 23 kills and 14 digs, her 12th double-double of the season, in a 3-1 win at Emmanuel College.

Ward closed the week with eight kills and 15 digs in a sweep at Erskine College. For the week she posted 55 kills (5.00/set) while hitting .336. The outside hitter added 35 digs for an average of 3.18 per set, four blocks and six service aces.

Floyd started his week by pouring in 34 points in a win over UVa-Wise on Friday night where he shot 60.9 percent (14-23) from the floor. The senior followed that with 34 points, shooting 52.0 percent (13-25) from the floor in a win over Carson-Newman University. The win for the Tornado over the Eagles was the first since 2011. The Stone Mountain, Ga., native added four rebounds, four assists and five steals in the win over Carson-Newman.

Floyd now has nine 30-point games in his career, and he reached the 1000-point plateau while wearing a Tornado uniform. He now as 1,012 points in 64 games wearing the scarlet and navy and 1,234 points in his career.

She also was selected TSWA Player of the Week on September 10. This marks the first TSWA weekly award for Floyd this season.

The Tornado women's volleyball team closes the regular season on Saturday when they host Conference Carolinas rival Lees-McRae College on Saturday at 12:00 p.m. The men's basketball team returns to the court on Saturday when they host Shorter University at 5:00 p.m.
