King drops meet against Cumberlands

BRISTOL, Tenn. – The King University women's swimming team took on the University of the Cumberlands in a relay meet on Saturday in Bristol, Tennessee. The Patriots came away with the 128-115 win.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Steph Dansie, Gwen Haag, and Nicola Mead, and Jayne Wolbert started the meet with a 200 yard medley relay time of 2:00.91.
  • In the 200 yard freestyle, Ashley Woods finished first with a time of 2:02.58.
  • Samantha Davis finished second in the 100 yard backstroke with a time of 1:05.3.
  • Dansie finished first in the 200 yard butterfly with a time of 2:17.89 and Mead followed with a second-place finish with a time of 2:18.88.
  • Madi Matthews finished first in both the 50 and 100 yard freestyle.
  • She finished the 50 yard freestyle with a time of 25.63 and she finished the 100 yard freestyle with a time of 55.29.
  • In the 200 yard backstroke, Dansie finished second with a time of 2:16.64.
  • Woods finished first in the 500 yard freestyle with a time of 5:26.17.
  • In the 100 yard butterfly, Mead finished first with a time of 1:02.68.
  • King took second and third place in the 200 yard IM, with Dansie placing second with a time of 2:21.42 and Macarena Martin Mayor placing third with a time of 2:25.82.
  • In the 200 yard freestyle relay, Davis, Michelle MorlockBrooke Williams and Matthews finished first with a time of 1:44.06.

QUOTABLE

"This was a close meet, and we had some strong swims today," said head coach James Graves. "It is tough to lose, but we fought hard and responded well to an up and down meet. We have great leadership on our girls team, and that really showed today. I look forward to a good week of training and tightly contested meet next weekend against Lees-McRae and Mars Hill on Senior night."

  • King is in action again on Friday, hosting Mars Hill University and Lees-McRae College. The meet is scheduled to start at 6:00 p.m.
