BRISTOL, Tenn. – The opening week of the 2018 season was memorable for King University men's track & field athlete James Russell Ballowe. He won the 5,000 meter race at the ETSU Invitational on Friday night and on Wednesday he was named Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Track Athlete of the Week.

Ballowe started the season with a first place finish in the 5,000 meters at the ETSU Invitational. In a field of 34, including numerous NCAA Division I competitors, Ballowe finished nearly eight seconds ahead of the field in the 5000 meters with a time of 15:30.75. The next day, Ballowe covered the 3,000 meter distance in 8:54.07 to take 16th in field of more than 60 runners. He was only one of 18 runners to finish under the nine-minute mark.

This marks the first time this season and second time in his career that Ballowe has been selected ECAC Track Athlete of the Week.

The Tornado will be in action again on Friday and Saturday at the Appalachian Open in Boone, N.C.
