King scores ealry, but C-N comes back for win

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – The King University men's soccer team got off to a good start on Wednesday night at Carson-Newman University. The Tornado grabbed the lead in the opening two minutes, but the Eagle defense tightened up as they came back to take the contest 3-1.

  • Not even two minutes into the contest, Ben Delisle ripped a shot from 25 yards out in the middle of the field as he cleared a defender.
  • The shot was placed perfectly in the upper right 90, giving King the 1-0 lead.
  • Samuel Corredor Rincon had another chance a few minutes later, but his shot was just wide.
  • However, the Eagles then turned the field and evened the score in the 22nd minute.
  • Dalton Gammon came up with a save on the first shot from Carson-Newman, but Bill Hadam found the back of the net on the rebound.
  • Carson-Newman then controlled play before breaking through again in the 38th minute.
  • This time Nencho Margaritha headed a cross into the left side of the net, giving Carson-Newman the 2-1 lead as the Eagles held that advantage at the break.
  • Carson-Newman continued the pressure early in the second half, but the Tornado withstood the Eagle attack as Gammon made three saves in the opening 15 minutes of the half.
  • King tried to turn the field, but the Carson-Newman defense stood tough, only allowing one Tornado shot in the second stanza, a shot that sailed wide off the foot of Diogo Ruivo in the 68th minute.
  • The Eagles added an insurance goal in the 88th minute to take the game 3-1.


  • King took five shots in the contest, two on frame.
  • Delisle scored his third goal in two games for the Tornado.
  • Gammon made six saves in goal.


  • Carson-Newman placed nine of their 27 shots on frame and had 10 corner kicks.
  • Bram Kaarsgaren posted one save in goal.


  • King travels to Shaw University on Tuesday. Kickoff from Raleigh, N.C. is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
  • Carson-Newman travels to Anderson University on Saturday.
