Golden goal stuns Tornado in home opener

BRISTOL, Tenn. – The King University men's soccer team opened their home schedule against USC Aiken and after a hard fought battle between both teams, the Tornado fell to the Pacers 1-0. Both teams remained scoreless in 90 minutes of play, but USC Aiken found the back of the net midway through the extra session to defeat the Tornado.

  • The Tornado put pressure on the Pacer defense early on in the game as Zubair Taylor and Samuel Corredor Rincon both had one shot each in the first 10 minutes.
  • King had another chance to get on the board in the 27th minute when Taylor took aim at the goal, but the shot was saved by Kenneth Kalek.
  • Nathan Rincon followed up with another shot in the 29th minute that was wide left of the goal.
  • Toward the end of the first half, USC Aiken became more aggressive and took more chances at a goal, with one shot by Jorvel Tobierre in the 43rd minute and two shots by Duncan Mihoulides in the 45th minute.
  • USC Aiken came alive in the beginning of the second half with a shot by Chris Caudell that was saved by Dalton Gammon and two more shots by Kyllian Martin that were off target.
  • King lone shot of the second half at the 73rd minute, but Ruben Laureano's shot was saved by Kalek.
  • USC Aiken finally struck in the 95th minute as Ricard Saintil found the back of the net with an assist from David Box.


  • USC Aiken outshot the Tornado 16-6 in the contest and had five corner kicks to King's one.
  • The Tornado finished the match with six shots with Taylor and Laureano leading the Tornado with two shots each.
  • Samuel Corredor Rincon and Nathan Rincon both had one shot each.
  • Gammon made three saves in goal.


  • The goal for Ricard Saintil was his first of the season.
