BRISTOL, Tenn. – James Brown of the King University men's basketball team was selected CoSIDA Academic All-District. Brown is the first Tornado in three years to earn CoSIDA Academic All-District honors and first men's basketball player in four years to be selected.

Brown, a senior from Lansing, Mich., has had a great season on and off the court for the Tornado. He is King's second-leading scorer, averaging 13.0 points per game while pulling down 5.7 rebounds per game. Brown ranks 12th in Conference Carolinas in rebounds per game and seventh in offensive rebounds. His 45 steals on the season rank fifth in the league.

Brown has scored in double figures in all but seven games this season and registered two games with at least 20 points. His season-high of 23 points came in a win at Lees-McRae on January 29. His lone double-double of the season came against Johnson University (Tenn.) where he scored 16 points and snared 11 rebounds.

Off the court, Brown has been on the Dean's List all three semesters he has been at King. He is also the treasurer of the Student Government Association (SGA) and the Tornado Leadership Team. Brown is also an APPLE Team Leader as he attended the APPLE Conference and presented to his fellow Tornado student-athletes. Earlier this year he was a Keynote speaker for the Boy Scout Association in Bristol and has volunteered at local elementary schools.

In the classroom, Brown carries a 3.80 GPA while majoring in Business Marketing.

Brown is the third King men's basketball player to earn CoSIDA Academic All-District honors, joining Logan Lyle in 2014-15 and Drew Standifer in 2015-16.

He will now be nominated for CoSIDA Academic All-America, which will be announced on March 10.
