Offense erupts as Tornado down Johnson

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – The King University men's basketball team traveled Johnson University (Tenn.) for a nonconference tilt on Wednesday night. The Tornado put together one of their most impressive shooting nights of the season, scoring 76 points in the first half, en route to the 113-59 victory.

HOW IT HAPPENED

First Half

  • King turned a 6-2 deficit in the early going into a 21-6 lead with a 19-0 spurt.
  • Jordan Floyd knocked down three triples on the spurt while James Brown and Justin Frazier each connected from long range on the run.
  • The Tornado later went on a 20-2 run to take a 53-20 lead with seven minutes remaining in the half.
  • Floyd accounted for 10 points on the run as he tallied 28 points in the opening 20 minutes.
  • King continued to shoot well, extending their lead to 70-28 following a Blake Atwood layup, King's largest lead of the half.
  • Brandon Lamberth scored the final two buckets down the stretch, giving King a 76-38 lead at the break.
  • The Tornado shot 63.8 percent from the floor and 61.9 percent from three-point range in the opening 20 minutes while holding Johnson to a 37.8 field goal percentage.

Second Half

  • The Tornado didn't slow down in the second half, opening up a 96-46 lead following an Atwood trifecta five minutes into the second half.
  • Tyler Murray gave King their largest lead of the game at 112-55 when he connected from long range with three minutes remaining.
  • King went on to take the contest 113-59.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

  • Floyd led King with 28 points, shooting 11-for-18 from the floor and 6-for-9 from three-point range in 15 minutes.
  • Brown added 15 points and Lamberth chipped in with 12 points.
  • Frazier added eight points and 10 rebounds.

FOR THE FOES

  • Ethan Loveday led Johnson with 16 points off the bench.
  • Orion Mashburn added 13 points.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

  • King scored 76 points in the first half, which is believed to be the most scored in a half in school history. The previous best came in 2013-14 when the Tornado scored 73 points in the second half against Mars Hill University.
  • The 113 points is the most in a game since that contest against Mars Hill when the Tornado scored 131 points.
