Simon Duffy enters his second season as the head coach of Lady Tornado Soccer after leading the team to the Conference Carolinas Women’s Soccer Tournament in its first year as a member school. He brings enthusiasm and a youthful spark to the program that stems from his days as a Division II player and coach at the high school and collegiate levels. He was hired on May 3, 2011.
In year one of Duffy’s tenure at King, he led the Lady Tornado to a postseason berth in its first eligible year after making the transition to NCAA Division II. After a slow start to the 2011 campaign, Duffy turned the team around near the midway point of the season and guided them to a remarkable finish that included a win or draw
in eight of the team’s last 11 games and went 7-1-1 in Conference Carolinas matches leading into the conference tournament and four shut outs in that time. Under his guidance, he saw three players named to the All-Conference Team and Morgan Shelton named to the NSCAA/NCAA and Daktronics All-Southeast Region teams.
At the end of the season, the Lady Tornado was recognized by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCA) with a Team Academic Award and saw five of its players named to the Conference Carolinas All-Academic Team.
Duffy came to King after a five-year coaching tenure at his alma mater, Lambuth University (Jackson, Tenn.). From 2006 to 2010, he was instrumental in taking the program through its transition from NAIA to NCAA Division II status and led the Lady Eagles to an overall record of 24-53-4 over that time against top conference and national competition. In conference play, his teams combined for an 6-9-0 mark.
His players enjoyed much success both on and off the field where multiple Lady Eagles were named to the Academic All-Conference, Academic All-American, All-Conference and All-NAIA Honorable Mention honors under his leadership.
Prior to his time at Lambuth, Duffy spent one season at Young Harris College (Young Harris, Ga.) where he was an assistant coach with the Mountain Lion men’s soccer team in 2005. Before joining Young Harris, he spend two years serving as the co-head coach of the boys and girls soccer programs at Martin Westview High School (Martin, Tenn.), where his coaching career began. While at MWHS, his teams won four district championships, two region championships and advanced to the Tennessee State Tournament for the first time in school history in 2004 with a return trip the following year. Duffy also served as part-time head coach for the Jackson Soccer Club from 2002-2011.
Duffy played collegiately at Lambuth from 1999-2003 where he was a two-time All-Mid-South Conference selection and was a part of a Mid-South Conference championship team his freshman year. He later went on to captain the Eagles before graduating. While a player, Duffy helped his team become ranked in NAIA polls, taking the Eagles as high as No. 16 nationally.
Before attending Lambuth, Duffy played nine seasons (1990-99) for Parkvilla Football C
lub in his native home of Navan, Ireland. Duffy holds a USSF ‘A’ Coaching License, NSCAA Advanced National Diploma. He also holds an FAI (Football Association of Ireland) Level 1 & Youth Coaching Diploma. Duffy is a member of the TN ODP State staff (Boys & Girls)
Duffy graduated from Lambuth in 2003 with a Bachelor’s of Science in Psychology. He then attended the University of Tennessee - Martin where he earned his master’s degree in Education in 2005. He and his wife Lizzie currently reside in Kingsport, Tenn.

Danny McBride has assumed the role of assistant coach for the Lady Tornado soccer team, effective June 1, 2012. Previously he was a volunteer assistant with the team under Head Coach Simon Duffy and enters his second year with the women’s program and sixth year at the College.
McBride, a former student-athlete on the King men’s soccer team, is regarded as one of the area’s up-and-coming coaches at the youth and collegiate levels. His versatility as both a midfielder and defenseman during his playing days at King fostered a wide range of skills and helped develop talent up and down last year’s squad, including twice named All-Region selection Morgan Shelton who led the team with 14 goals and five assists. He also helped goalkeeper Abbey Kitts and defenseman Heidi Steger earn Third Team All-Conference honors.
The Dundee, Scotland native involved himself at the youth level as a coach and area coordinator for multiple clubs in the Tri-City area. Since 2009 McBride has served as a coach for the Fusion U11 and U12 Futbol Club in Bristol (TN) and is also the Junior Academy site coordinator for the Fusion Futbol Club in Kingsport. Three current Fusion players are also members of U.S. National teams. He is also an active participant in the annual and well-respected Tornado Soccer Camp held at King College as well as Vanderbilt University and Samford University’s soccer camps.
McBride played for the Tornado men’s soccer team from 2007-2010 as a midfielder and defenseman. He was a part of two Appalachian Athletic Conference tournament champion teams after the Tornado won titles in 2007 and 2008 and advanced to the NAIA National Tournament in 2008. In 2009, McBride was named an NCCAA Scholar-Athlete and won the 2010-11 Team Hardcore Award and in the same offseason was named Region Athlete of the Year, presented by the Fellowship of Christian Athletes.
Prior to coming to King, McBride played in the academies of two Scottish premier leagues for seven years. From 2001-2004, he played with the Dundee United F.C. and then moved to the Dundee F.C. where he played until 2007. He went on to play one season with Arboath F.C. in the Scottish Second Division where he represented Tayside Region Select Team and the Scottish Schoolboys U18 National Team.
McBride is a 2011 graduate of King College where he received his Bachelor of Arts degree in history and political science. He is currently pursuing his master’s degree in education from King and resides in Bristol (TN).
