Lady Tornado overtaken by ETSU, 2-0
JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. - The 2010 season opener for the King College women's soccer team did not go as planned Thursday as the Lady Tornado were defeated 2-0 at East Tennessee State University.
After the match, King at 0-1 will now welcome Tennessee Wesleyan College to Bristol for the home opener at Parks Field Saturday. Tennessee Wesleyan lost 4-0 to East Tennessee State, with a 3-0-1 record, earlier in the week.
After dodging numerous threats early, the Lady Tornado fell behind 1-0 30:24 into the contest. Kayla White scored on a shot off the post into the net with an assist from Ramey Kerns.
Before that Abbey Kitts (Tazewell, Va.) stopped five shots by the Lady Bucs. She finished with 10 saves for the game.
The Lady Bucs tacked on a second goal at the 46:05 mark thanks to Terri Miller's goal on a breakaway. Kelly Brinkman was credited with the assist.
Overall East Tennessee had 12 shots in the opening 45 minutes with six on goal.
The goalkeeping duo of Megan Masch and Caitlin Gaughan combined on the shutout. Masch played the first 49 minutes before Gaughan finished out the game.
The Lady Bucs attempted 29 shots with a dozen on goal. King did not attempt a shot for the 90 minutes with no corner kicks either. The Lady Tornado defense got some help with five offside calls against ETSU.
