  • King wrestling room gets a face lift

    BRISTOL, Tenn. – Thanks to the contributions from supporters of King wrestling and capital improvement money from King, the men’s and women’s wrestling room received a facelift this summer. New mats were purchased from Resilite, the leading manufacturer of protective mats and padding for wrestling and the official mat of the NCAA Wrestling Championships.

    BRISTOL, Tenn. – King University Head Men’s Wrestling Coach Jason Moorman announced the hiring of Derrick Nelson to complete his staff. Along with the hire, Moorman also promoted assistant coach Travis Mercado to Associate Head Coach.
  • Mercado, Salata attend NWCA Leadership Academy

    BRISTOL, Tenn. – King University wrestling coaches Travis Mercado and Julia Salata were both nominated to attend the National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) Leadership Academy, held in conjunction with the NWCA Coaches Convention. The duo attended 10 different sessions in the two-day academy, taking in a lot of information they will be taking back to King this year.

    BRISTOL, Tenn. – King University Head Wrestling Coach Jason Moorman and his staff will be hosting a pair of camps this summer on campus. The Tornado Women’s Wrestling Camp is scheduled for June 25-29 and the Tornado Men’s Wrestling Camp is slated for July 16-20.

    BRISTOL, Tenn. – The King University men’s and women’s wrestling team is currently working on a fundraiser to enhance and make necessary improvements to the wrestling practice facilities. The programs have set a goal to raise $30,000 to fund the upgrades and enhancements, which will include new practice mats and wall padding.
  • Tornado trio named ECAC All-Academic

    BRISTOL, Tenn. – Three members of the King University men’s wrestling team were recognized on the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC), earning all-academic honors. The trio including Bryce Killian, Joey Mammolenti and Bryan Flores-Garcia.

    BRISTOL, Tenn. – The King University men’s wrestling team had a successful season, and three individuals were recognized by the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) when they announced their postseason awards. All-Americans Dustin Kirk and Bryce Killian earned first team All-ECAC honors while Reed Jacks earned second team All-ECAC recognition.

    BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Dustin Kirk and Bryce Killian completed the NCAA Wrestling Championships with a pair of All-American performances. Kirk posted the highest finish by a King wrestler at the event, third, and Killian finished second, giving King their first All-Americans since 2011-12.

  • Three Tornado to compete at NCAA DII Winter Festival

    BRISTOL, Tenn. – Coming up this weekend, King University will have three student-athletes competing at the NCAA Division II Winter Festival in Birmingham, Ala. Vincent Okot will compete in the Men's Indoor Track & Field Championships on Friday while Dustin Kirk and Bryce Killian will compete in the Men's Wrestling Championships that start competition on Friday.

    BRISTOL, Tenn. – For the first time in five years, the King University men’s wrestling team is nationally ranked. The Tornado check in at 19th in the final D2Wrestle.com poll of the year. King also has two individuals ranked, Dustin Kirk and 133 pounds and Bryce Killian at 141 pounds.

    BRISTOL, Tenn. – For the second time this year, the King University men’s wrestling team has the Eastern College Athletic Conference Wrestler of the Month. Bryce Killian advanced to his second straight NCAA Division II Men’s Wrestling Championships to earn co-honors this week with Blaze Shade of UNC Pembroke.
  • Kirk and Killian qualify for NCAA Championships

    INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – For the first time in five years, the King University men’s wrestling team had more than one wrestler qualify for the NCAA Division II Men’s Wrestling Championships. Both Dustin Kirk and Bryce Killian finished runner-up at their respective weight classes at the NCAA Super Region II Championships.

    INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The King University men’s wrestling team opened the NCAA Super Region II Championships on Friday and the Tornado had three wrestlers advance to Saturday. Dustin Kirk and Bryce Killian are both in the semifinals while Landon Reed will try to work his way through the consolation bracket.

    PEMBROKE, N.C. – The King University men’s wrestling team traveled to take on 23rd-ranked UNC Pembroke in their final dual match of the season. The Tornado took three forfeits as the Braves took the Eastern College Athletic Conference Dual 36-6.

    BRISTOL, Tenn. – The King University men’s wrestling team hosted their final dual of the season, squaring off with Limestone College in and Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) tilt. The Saints took the early lead, and didn’t look back, taking the dual 34-10.

    NEWBERRY, S.C. – The King University men’s wrestling team accomplished something they hadn’t in four years on Saturday as they went 1-1 at the Super Region II Duals. The Tornado knocked off 23rd-ranked Tiffin University 30-16 for their first win over a ranked opponent since 2013. King the fell to seventh-ranked University of Findlay 26-12 later in the day.

    BRISTOL, Tenn. – The King University men’s wrestling team returned to the Student Center Complex in a big way on Saturday afternoon. The Tornado showed their dominance early and throughout their 44-6 victory over Coker College.

    HAMPTON, Va. – The King University men’s wrestling team came home with a hard fought fourth place finish at the Virginia Duals. The Tornado fell to runner-up Ferrum College 30-11 to start the day before rebounding with a 30-18 victory over Liberty College. It looked like the Tornado would take third place, but Camden CC came back to take a 22-20 victory.

    HAMPTON, Va. – The King University men’s wrestling team opened the Virginia Duals with an emphatic victory of the University of Central Florida. The Tornado topped Central Florida 35-13 to advance to Saturday’s semifinals.
  • Tornado fall to Emmanuel in first home dual

    BRISTOL, Tenn. – The King University men’s wrestling team returned to action with their first home dual when they hosted Emmanuel College on Thursday evening. The Tornado got off to a good start, but the Lions came back to take the lead and later the match 26-17.

  • Kirk's runner-up finish leads King at Midwest Classic

    INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The duo of Dustin Kirk and Joey Mammonlenti advanced to the second day of the highly competitive 38th Annual Midwest Classic. Kirk reached the finals and finished second while Mammolenti took eight. The Tornado finished 24th of 38 teams at the event that featured 15 teams ranked in the top 25.

    INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Facing some of the toughest competition in the nation, the King University men’s wrestling team had two grapplers advance to Sunday of the 38th Annual Midwest Classic. The tournament features 15 of the top 25 ranked teams in the nation and Dustin Kirk advanced to Sunday’s semifinals while Joey Mammolenti is still alive in the consolation bracket.
