Kirk, Killian earn All-American after day 1 of NCAA Championships

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Dustin Kirk and Bryce Killian made history for the King University men's wrestling team on Friday at the NCAA Division II Wrestling Championships. Both wrestlers advanced to the consolation quarterfinals, earning All-American honors.


  • Coming in ranked third at 133 pounds, Kirk got off to a great start, defeating eighth-ranked Martin Ramirez of Adams State University on an 8-0 major decision to advance to the quarterfinals.
  • In the quarterfinals, Kirk fell to second ranked Blake Bosch of Minnesota State University Moorehead 5-3.
  • Kirk bounced back in the consolation bracket, defeating fourth ranked Paul Garcia of Colorado State-Pueblo 3-2.
  • Killian, who is ranked fourth at 141 pounds got off to a great start as well, taking a 13-5 major decision over St. Cloud State University's Jarred Oftedahl to reach the quarterfinals.
  • However, in the quarterfinals he fell to Colorado Mesa's Daniel Salazar 5-3, dropping Killian to the consolation bracket.
  • Killian came back with an 8-2 decision over Ashland University's Chandler Minnard to advance to Saturday's consolation quarterfinals.


  • The top eight wrestlers at each weight class earn All-American recognition and both Kirk and Killian are guaranteed at least an eighth place finish. Each wrestler could finish as high as third on Saturday.
  • Kirk faces 12th-ranked David Bavery of Notre Dame College and Killian will take on 10th-ranked Brandon Ball of Fort hays State.
  • Kirk and Killian become King's first NCAA Division II All-American's since assistant coach Frank Morgan and Tywan Claxton earned All-American recognition in 2011-12.


  • The duo will take the mat on the final day of the NCAA Wrestling Championships on Saturday.
