Tornado Swimming Knocked Off By Milligan

BRISTOL, Tenn. – In their first home meet of the season, both the men's and women's swimming programs fell to the Milligan Buffaloes on Tuesday night at the Margaret H. St. John Pool. The King College men's team fell 110-72 and the women were defeated, 101-69.

Wayne Oliver (Bristol, Tenn.) was one of five individuals who won an event for the Tornado. Oliver won two races, the 200-yard freestyle (1:56.54) and the 100-yard fly (58:05) on the day. He was the only individual for King to win multiple events on the day. Alek Nochowicz (Mt. Juliet, Tenn.) took first in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:28.23.

Kelsey Copeland (Mt. Juliet, Tenn.), Jade Schroeder (Titusville, Tenn.) and Malorie McBride (Nashville, Tenn.) all won events for the Lady Tornado. Copeland opened the meet with a full-second win in the 50-yard freestyle event (26.17) with Schroeder and McBride each pulling out victories in the third and fourth races of the meet. Schroeder finished the 200-yard freestyle with a winning time of 2:09.89 while McBride earned a win in the 500-yard freestyle with a 5:59.55 finish time, ending the final leg of the race faster than each of the previous seven. Shirley Langford (Cape Coral, Fla.) helped King sweep the 500 free with a second place finish and a 6:06.25 result.

Both the men and women went 1-1 in their two relay races on the day. The men earned a win in the 200-yard freestyle relay (1:33.94), picking up two seconds in their last two legs of the race to solidify the victory. The women's team won their 200-yard freestyle relay by six seconds (1:50.52) distancing themselves with more than a five-second differential in the last leg of the race.

Tornado swimming will next participate in the Conference Carolina Carnival, held in Misenheimer, N.C. on Saturday, Oct. 8 by Limestone College.
