Tornado Dissolve Two-Goal Deficit in 2-2 Draw on Senior Day
Caracciolo's goal in the 88th minute brought the crowd to its feet and generated a whirlwind of excitement, as it tied the game at two goals. After two previous possessions that the Clarksville, Tenn. native failed to convert on, Caracciolo fought through defensive pressure and found a slight opening to take his shot. Falling away from the ball and his defender, the sophomore blasted a shot that curved back toward the goal and hit the far-side post. The ball bounced backward and hit the back of the goal with 2:03 remaining.
King (3-7-2, 2-4-0) first got on the board off a boot from Tom Winspear (Yarm, England) in the 55th minute. After a Falcon foul inside the box, Winspear converted a penalty shot to half the lead, 2-1. It was the senior's 13th goal of the season.
The Tornado fell behind after Pfeiffer scored two goals in the first half, the latter of the two as the buzzer sounded. Patrick Milfeld (Dallas, Texas) stepped in as goalkeeper but allowed goals to Eamonn Smith and Ben Lloyd. Lloyd's goal came as the clock hit zero in the first half, a shot taken from just outside the 18-yard box.
King had a chance to earn the victory in the first overtime when Caracciolo nearly scored his second goal that all at Parks Field believed crossed the goal line, however, officials signaled no goal and instructed all to play on.
Milfeld ended the night with a pair of saves while his counterpart for Pfeiffer, Zach Liles, tallied seven. King compounded 20 shots, vastly outnumbering Pfeiffer who had eight. Nine of King's shots were on goal to the Falcons' four.
The Tornado honored six seniors in their pregame festivities for their dedicated service to King Men's Soccer. Patrick Milfeld, Colby Childress, Tom Winspear, Erik Douglas, Michael Johnson and Matt Kilgus plus their families were recognized prior to game.
King will play its next two games on the road against Belmont Abbey (Oct. 19) and Barton (Oct. 22) before returning to Parks Field one last time on Oct. 25 for a match against Queens (N.C).
