Shutout leads to NCCAA award for Tornado's Rhodes
GREENVILLE, S.C. - King College freshman Cory Rhodes threw his way to a second-straight NCCAA Division I Baseball Student-Athlete of the Week award announced by the national office.
Rhodes (Kissimmee, Fla.) shut out Tiffin (Ohio) University on Saturday in a seven-inning complete game effort. He scattered three hits and struck out seven in his second win of the season.
On Saturday he faced 23 batters and retired 13 straight as he only needed 100 pitches. Rhodes ran his consecutive scoreless inning streak up to 15 after keeping Francis Marion (S.C.) University off the scoreboard for eight innings in the season opener.
King, now at 3-3 on the season, welcomes Concord (W.Va.) University to Bristol for a three-game series this weekend. Saturday's doubleheader has a noon start with a 2 p.m. game Sunday.
