Present during the earliest days of King Men’s Wrestling, Javonte Ashford is continuing to guide Tornado grapplers toward success as he enters his second year as an assistant coach.
Ashford serves as the first All-American to come out of the King wrestling program when he earned a fifth place overall finish at the 2008 NAIA National Tournament at 165 pounds. He returned for his senior year in 2009 where he raised his game to earn a No. 2 national ranking at his weight class before enduring a season-ending injury.
After graduating from King in 2009, Ashford worked for the Adems Championship School of Wrestling and was the Head Volunteer Coach for the PAL Predators Youth Wrestling team that served under-privileged youth. While coaching those two programs, he has mentored numerous state championships and podium placers.
Since rejoining King in 2010, Ashford has helped groom four national qualifiers, two All-Americans, and two Academic All-Americans. He is also an admissions representative with the College where he recruits the states of Tennessee and North Carolina for nine of King’s varsity sports teams.
Ashford is an all-natural body builder and competes in International Natural Bodybuilding and Fitness (INBF). Most recently, he took third place at Natural North America 2012, an invitation-only event, held in Arlington, Va.
He received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Online Media and Marketing from King in 2009 and is currently studying towards his master’s degree in higher education administrative services from McKendree University (Ill.).
