Rahming, Alfano Named Student-Athletes of the Month
BRISTOL, Tenn. – The Student-Athlete
Advisory Committee (SAAC) at King College has named Track and Field
standouts Earl Rahming and Danielle Alfano the Student-Athletes of
the Month for February after incredible performances during the
heart of their indoor season.
Earl Rahming (Nassau, Bahamas) ran a new indoor lifetime best at
the UNC Chapel Hill Invitational at the Gene Anderson Invitational
(Feb. 18). With his time of 49.60 seconds in the 400-meter event,
the sophomore took the win against a field that included NCAA
Division I competition teams University of North Carolina, Wake
Forest, Duke, and conference foe Mount Olive. He finished just 0.35
away from the NCAA Division II national qualifying time for the 400
meters. Rahming is a senior leader of King College Track and Field
team that is now ranked No. 1 in the NCAA DII Southeast Region in
the most recent poll.
Danielle Alfano (Chattanooga, Tenn.) took third place at the
recent UNC Chapel Hill Invitational just one week before winning
her first collegiate race at last weekend’s JDL Fast Track
Invitational. Alfano blasted past competitors from regional and
conference foes Anderson and Mount Olive and Division I competition
from UNC, Wake Forest, and Duke. Her time of 5:10 for the mile is
the fastest time ever in 10 years of track and field at King
College. Alfano's career includes a trip to the 2010 NCAA Div. II
National Cross Country Championships, twice named an academic
All-American, and also the 2011 Conference Carolina Academic Cross
Country Athlete of the Year.
"Danielle and Earl have worked so hard, and stayed so focused,
during the off-season. Their determination and diligence over the
long term, is the basis for their impressive performances
recently,” said Head Coach Peter Dalton. “Both athletes
deserve all the credit and the team is grateful for their
commitment and leadership."
